Carlow Choir to perform at Assumption
The Carlow Choir, under the direction of John De Chiaro, is comprised of singers and instrumentalists from Louisiana.
The choir will perform at the Church of the Assumption in Franklin Sunday at 2 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. A love offering will be accepted.
The term “Carlow” refers to the name of the seminary “Carlow College” at which many of the Irish Catholic priests serving in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi today received their theological training. The choir performs liturgical repertoire of varying styles and formats in the soprano, alto, tenor and bass textural setting.
In October 2008, the choir presented a series of concerts throughout Italy with a special performance for Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican in Rome. In September 2010, the choir concertized throughout Ireland performing a special concert at Carlow College in Carlow, Ireland. In the fall of 2009, the choir released its first CD recording on Centaur Records entitled “Reflections For the Heart” which features liturgical selections from its standard concert repertoire.
In addition to its CD recording, the choir has been commissioned by the Eternal Word Television Network to produce several DVD recordings which have become popular favorites on the global Catholic network. Among these is a concert entitled “Praise To the Lord,” which was recorded in November of 2009 at the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Alexandria, Louisiana. A program featuring traditional Christmas carols performed by the choir was broadcast by EWTN in December 2010 and a recording of the choir in concert at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland, was broadcast in 2011.
