Dardenne names leader of seafood promotion board
BATON ROUGE (AP) — The Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board has a new executive director.
Karen Profita, formerly CEO of the Capital Area United Way, was hired this week by Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne to lead the board. The position will pay her $87,500 a year.
Board members received more than a dozen applications, interviewed four candidates and sent two recommended contenders for the job to Dardenne. He chose Profita.
Profita has a 20-year background in marketing, nonprofit and fundraising work. She’s new to the seafood industry.
Ewell Smith resigned as board executive director shortly after state lawmakers shifted oversight responsibility of the board to the lieutenant governor.
The change was designed to strengthen supervision of a 14-member panel that has received millions in recovery money from the 2010 Gulf Coast oil spill.
