Brown, Singleton earn Class 1A All-State honors

Central Catholic seniors Dontrell Brown and Josh Singleton were recognized on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A All-State team.

Brown, who played guard and forward for the Eagles, was named to the first team after averaging 23.5 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per contest.

Singleton, a guard, was an honorable mention selection after concluding his senior season with per-game averages of 15.2 points and 7.6 assists.

“I think it was well deserved on both of their parts,” Central Catholic coach Ree Case said today. “I think they were definitely two of the best players in the state in Class 1A.”

Case said they did a good job of leading the Eagles this past year.

Country Day’s Scott Plaisance was named the All-State squad’s Outstanding Player, while his coach, Mike McGuire, was named Coach of the Year.

This is Singleton’s first time being selected as an all-state selection, while Brown was an honorable mention selection a year ago.

Both were all-district performers the past four years, with Brown earning District 8-1A Most Valuable Player honors this year and Singleton, first-team status.
