Book signing set at AGU's gallery
The Daily Review
Artists Guild Unlimited will hold a book signing and reception for local authors Diane T. Martin and Linda V. Thomas on their recently published title, “Education: Roast & Toast,” at the Everett Street Gallery, March 7, 4-6 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
If light-hearted, humorous school memories put a smile on your face, you will laugh out loud at the anecdotes collected by Martin and Thomas, two inveterate local teachers. Few are more qualified to guide you on a gleeful jaunt into yesteryear. Whether you are a teacher, student, or parent, Martin and Thomas conjure up not only the funny tales we all seem to remember, but also the hidden facets from behind the door of the storied Teachers’ Workroom with their first book, “Education: Roast & Toast.”
No strangers to unusual emails, notes, and other laughable material crossing their desks, Martin and Thomas spent a combined 60 years in various classrooms, often joking about writing a book when they retired. With the urging of colleagues, it wasn’t long before the joking became reality and manifested itself in this gem of non-fiction.
Teachers, by virtue of position, are privy to all sides of the education process, witnessing the gaffes and tribulations equally of students, parents, and administrators. Experience and quick-witted humor make Martin and Thomas’ offering unique and entertaining. With sassy tales of the hilarity and calamity of the classroom setting, their point of view is expertly showcased in this, their first collaboration.
Martin and Thomas’ new book, “Education: Roast & Toast, 60+ Years of Education Anecdotes,” can be bought at book signings, at Marilyn’s Hallmark Store and at L&H Printing in Morgan City.
