Berwick man charged with sexual battery

BERWICK, La. — A 55-year-old Berwick man turned himself in Tuesday at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office on a warrant for oral sexual battery and sexual battery stemming from an investigation into a June 18 complaint, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.

Eric Fontenot, 55, of the 2400 block of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 1:37 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for oral sexual battery, sexual battery, and simple battery.

Fontenot turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office after learning of the warrant for his arrest, Hebert said.

The warrant stems from an investigation into a complaint of molestation that began on June 18, Hebert said.

During the investigation, the detective learned that Fontenot touched a 20-year-old female victim without her permission at a residence in Berwick, Hebert said.

Fontenot was taken to the parish jail and held. Bail is set at $205,000.
