Berwick defeats Ellender

HOUMA — Berwick defeated Ellender 3-0 (25-21, 26-24, 25-17) in prep volleyball action Monday.

Brie Hill led the Lady Panthers with three aces, 15 kills, two blocks and 17 digs, while Ashton Morales added five aces, four kills, 15 assists and 23 digs, and Hannah Carpenter had one ace and 28 digs.

Other top contributors included Diana Grace Guarisco, two aces, five assists and 19 digs; Maddie Gray, seven kills, two blocks and five digs; Abigail Askew, one ace, 10 kills and four digs; Rennen Delatte, one ace and 12 digs; and McKenzie Baumgartner, two kills, two assists and four digs.

In junior varsity action, Berwick was victorious 25-20, 25-21, while the Lady Panthers’ freshmen squad won 25-21, 25-16.

Berwick (5-3) will return to action today when it travels to Baldwin to face West St. Mary. Junior varsity action is set for a 4 p.m. start with varsity play to follow at 5 p.m.

Beau Chene beats

Patterson in 5 games

Patterson dropped a tough match to Beau Chene on the road Monday that featured five games.

After falling in game 1, 18-25, Patterson responded with 25-16 and 25-15 wins in games 2 and 3, respectively.

However, Beau Chene regrouped with a 25-22 win in game four before both teams battled it out in the final set with Beau Chene finally taking a 23-21 victory.

Patterson recorded an impressive 27 aces in the contest, including six by Kailyn Johnson.

Johnson also had four kills, six assists and 12 points.

Other top contributors included Arian Grogan, four aces, seven points, nine kills, a dig and two blocks; Rachel Easley, four aces, 10 points, four kills and three digs; Gaylen Grogan, four aces, seven points, one kill, one dig, one block and one assist; Jazmin Evans, three aces, six points and six assists; Tamia Washington, four aces and eight points; and Katelyn Thibodaux, six digs.

In junior varsity action, Patterson was victorious with 25-23, 23-25, 15-13 wins.

Patterson will return to action Wednesday when it travels to face Central Lafourche. Action is set for a 4 p.m. start.

CCHS splits weekend action

Central Catholic finished 1-1 this weekend at H.L. Bourgeois’ tournament with a win against St. Martin’s Episcopal, while the squad fell to John Curtis.

Against St. Martin’s the Lady Eagles won 25-12, 25-12.

Meo Knight led the Lady Eagles with 10 kills and eight digs, while Kaitlyn Gros contributed 18 assists and nine digs; Gee Garrett, six kills; and Olivia Crawford, eight digs.

The Lady Eagles fell to John Curtis, 18-25, 20-25.

Knight finished with eight kills and 12 digs, while Crawford had 12 digs; Gros, 10 assists; and Garrett, two kills.

Central Catholic (6-3) will return to action Thursday when it hosts South Lafourche. Junior varsity action is set for a 4:30 p.m. start with varsity play to follow at 5:30 p.m.
