Bayou Vista bank robber sought

BAYOU VISTA — The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office is looking for a suspect wanted in connection with a robbery Saturday morning at Teche Federal Bank in Bayou Vista, according to a news release from Sheriff Mark Hebert.

Around 8:40 a.m. Saturday, a black male entered Teche Federal Bank on Southeast Boulevard, the release stated. Claiming to have an explosive device, the suspect demanded money from the teller.

The suspect then left the bank with approximately $2,400 and fled on foot down Arlington Street, the release stated.

The suspect is around 6-feet tall and weighs 150 to 200 pounds and has a thin to medium build, Hebert stated. The suspect has brown eyes and short black hair.

Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect who was captured on video surveillance. If anyone has information regarding the crime, contact the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office at 985-384-1622 or 337-828-1960.
