Bayou Teche Wooden Boat Show
Participants from as far away as Oklahoma, northern Mississippi and the Texas Hill Country traveled to Franklin last weekend for the third Bayou Teche Wooden Boat Show. There were 41 classic wooden vessels along Parc sur la Teche and in the bayou itself, and organizers say some 20-25 more didn’t make it to the show as planned due to the weather. Boats ranged from a 22-pound cedar canoe to a big steam-powered launch. A flotilla of classic Cajun bateaus joined in as well, powered by engines up to 100 years old. Co-organizers Roger Stouff and Gary Blum said each participant was impressed with the show, the festival and the city, and pledged to return next year and spread the word among other wooden boat enthusiasts about the boat show.
