Autism disorder training
Ten St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s deputies recently attended an autism recognition and response training session hosted by the Autism Society Bayou Chapter. Autism spectrum disorder is estimated to affect as many as one in every 88 children. During the training session in Gray, deputies learned to recognize basic behaviors and characteristics of children and adults with the disorder The deputies learned effective approaches when interacting with individuals affected by autism, such as enhancing communications and managing sensory influences.
