Arts program wraps Saturday

The Bayou Beaux Arts and Dance Program will host its dance performance and art show on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Broussard-Harris Recreation Center in Franklin.

The cost is $5 per person at the door.

Laura Zuniga was the instructor for the acrylics class this summer. When asked about this year’s students, Zuniga said, “I think I was more successful with the age group we had this year. They were much more receptive to my style of teaching.”

Zuniga instructed students in techniques for mixing colors and in light and shade. “The students were excited about the class,” she said. “All of them did well.”

Jon Eenigenburg was the mentor for the drawing class and trained the students to graph pictures in order to draw them to scale.

While teaching his classes, Eenigenburg discovered that there is a need for this type of art program. “The summer art program has provided a much needed outlet for students and adults that have a desire to create works of art in our community,” he said. “In fact, for several students, it was their first time in an art class environment.”

Catherine Siracusa taught the encaustics class, and students learned that broken crayons, a hot griddle and a little wax can make a masterpiece.

Everyone involved invites the citizens of Franklin and the surrounding area to visit the students’ art show at Broussard-Harris Saturday at 5 p.m.

The Bayou Beaux Arts and Dance Program is supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the Acadiana Center for the Arts.
