Amelia man arrested on warrant for sexual battery

AMELIA, La.-- An Amelia man was arrested Wednesday by a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s deputy on a warrant for sexual battery regarding a July 12 complaint, according to a news release from St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert.

Hector Caballero, 37, of the 100 block of Odile Lane in Amelia, was arrested at 6:57 p.m. Wednesday for resisting an officer and on a warrant for sexual battery. A deputy located Caballero at his residence on the warrant. During the arrest, Caballero attempted to run away from the deputy. Caballero was taken to the parish jail and held.

The warrant for sexual battery stems from an investigation into a complaint received by the sheriff’s office July 12. The deputy working the complaint received information that Caballero touched a female victim without her consent, Hebert stated. The investigation of the sexual battery is ongoing, Hebert stated. No bail is set.

Hebert reported the following arrests:

—Jimmy McGraw, 34, of the 1000 block of Red Cypress Road in Patterson, was arrested at 3:17 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for criminal neglect of family. A deputy patrolling the Bayou Vista area made contact with McGraw near the intersection of Middle and Southwest roads. He was taken to the parish jail and held. Bail is set at $14,053.25.

—Courtney Long, 34, of the 1300 block of Joseph Street in Amelia, was arrested at 9:33 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for issuing worthless checks. He was released on a summons to appear in court Oct. 9.

—Isaac Joseph Jr., 46, of the 3600 block of Lake Palourde Road in Amelia, was arrested at 10:04 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for criminal neglect of family. A deputy made contact with Joseph during a traffic stop on Duhon Boulevard. Joseph was the driver of the vehicle. During the traffic stop investigation, the deputy learned of the warrant for his arrest. Joseph was taken to the parish jail and held. Bail is set at $7,241.73.

Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrests:

—Andrew J. Rodriguez, 27, of Solar Apartments, was arrested at 2:36 p.m. Wednesday for domestic abuse battery.

Officers were dispatched to the Solar Apartments for a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival and conducting an investigation, it was learned that Rodriguez was involved in a domestic dispute and struck a female, Crouch stated. Rodriguez was taken to City Jail and is awaiting bail.

—Delone Miller, 50, of Bayou Black Road in Gibson, was arrested at 8:43 p.m. Wednesday for theft by shoplifting and possession of marijuana second offense.

Officers were called to Rouses in reference to a shoplifter. Officers were advised by security personnel that Miller had been observed taking a food item and leaving the store without paying. During Miller’s arrest, he was found to possess marijuana, Crouch stated. Records indicated it was his second offense. He was taken to jail and is awaiting bail to be set.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:

—Melvin Touchet, 58, of St. Martinville, was arrested at 10:55 p.m. Wednesday for disturbing the peace intoxicated and open container. Touchet is still being held.

Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
