Acadiana Fly Rodders will host seminar on Feb. 25
The members of Acadiana Fly Rodders of Lafayette will host the club’s 25th annual Fly Fishing Seminar in Lafayette.
The seminar, which will be held Feb. 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church (518 Roselawn Blvd.) is available to both members and the public for free.
All former members of Acadiana Fly Rodders are invited to the seminar to become re-acquainted with the organization and its members. Also, they should bring a guest.
This fly fishing program will address tackle needs and fishing techniques and will include fly tying demonstrations, fly casting demonstrations and lectures from experts.
Guest fly tyers who will demonstrate their skills and techniques are Diane and Richard Blair from Dallas, Fred Dupre from Colleyville, Texas, and Mark Pinsel, Kyle Moppert, Mike Racca, Beverly Vidrine, Bob Bose, Ray Boudreaux, Barry Dauphin and Paige Babineaux, all from Louisiana.
Special seminar guest speakers and their topics are:
—Larry Offner, who will present “Urban Fly Fishing Tactics.”
—Ron Begnaud of Lake Charles, sight fishing for red fish in Louisiana marshes.
—Pete Cooper (noted author and fly fishing professional), history of salt water fly fishing in Louisiana.
—Cameron Mortenson (a fiber glass and rod maker), fiberglass fly rods.
During the seminar, equipment and tackle will be on display, while the clubs will have silent auctions and raffles throughout the day. Equipment dealers will display their wares, and items will be available for sale.
The event will conclude with the club’s annual banquet at Abacus (530 West Pinhook Road, Lafayette) with a cocktail hour and cash bar beginning at 6 p.m. The dinner meal will be buffet-style at a cost of $25 per person. Dinner speakers will be Carl Johnson, a club charter member, and Cajun humorist, Danny Guidry.
