Police received a complaint of a residential burglary in progress on Headland Street in Morgan City this morning. Officers arrived in the area and observed several men leaving the scene and attempting to enter a vehicle.

Officers watched as the men noticed officers and begin to flee on foot. A uniformed officer gave chase and was able to capture one of the men, later identified as Jamarius Dugar, Crouch said. Jamarius Dugar began to struggle with officers and was eventually subdued and arrested, Crouch said. Other uniformed officers began to search the area for suspects and were able to locate a second man near the area of Eighth Street, he said.

That man, identified as Ivory Dugar, was detained by officers. According to witnesses, the men kicked in the door of a Headland Street residence while the occupants inside the residence fled to the bathroom for shelter. The men were alleged to have taken a cell phone and cash while inside the residence before leaving, Crouch said.

Both Jamarius Dugar and Ivory Dugar were arrested and taken to the Morgan City Police Department and held. The men’s vehicle was removed from the scene by Bayou Ramos Wrecker Service.

At approximately 3 a.m., police received information of the whereabouts of another suspect in the burglary, and officers proceeded to the location where they were able to locate a third suspect, identified as Quentin Dugar, hiding under a wrecker truck at Bayou Ramos wrecker yard with a hammer in his possession, Crouch said. Officers arrested Quentin Dugar after he was identified as one of the suspects in the burglary. He was also taken to the police department.

During the investigation, suspected marijuana was located inside the suspects’ vehicle as well as in their possession, Crouch said.

They remain in jail with no bail yet set.

The investigation is continuing and additional arrests are expected, Crouch said.
