3 arrested on drug charges

MORGAN CITY, La. — Three people were arrested Tuesday evening on multiple drug charges after St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s narcotics detectives made a traffic stop in Morgan City and subsequently got a warrant to search a residence in Bayou Vista.

Brian Joseph Derouen, 25, of Polaris Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of synthetic cannabinoids with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile, violation of CDS law (drug free zone), and transactions involving drug proceeds.

Kilo White, 23, of Tall Timbers Street in Patterson, was arrested for possession of marijuana second offense, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and violation of CDS law (drug free zone).

Katherine Denise Helms, 32, of Polaris Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested for possession of marijuana, possession of a CDS in the presence of a juvenile, and violation of CDS law (drug free zone).

St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office narcotics detectives patrolling in Morgan City observed a vehicle fail to signal a turn and conducted a traffic stop. Detectives located synthetic cannabinoids on the driver, identified as Derouen, the report stated. Marijuana and methamphetamine were found on the passenger, identified as White. After further investigation, detectives obtained a search warrant for Derouen’s residence located on Polaris Street in Bayou Vista.

During the search, detectives located marijuana with an estimated street value of $1,350, synthetic cannabinoids with an estimated street value of $3,180, and methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $700, the report stated. Detectives seized $425 in U.S. currency pending forfeiture. Detectives also found items of drug paraphernalia including a digital scale and small plastic sealable bags, he report stated.

Two juvenile children were also located in the home.

Derouen, Helms and White were taken to St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville and are being held. No bail is set.
