2 arrested after crash on U.S. 90; Morgan City man accused of not registering as a sex offender
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrests:
—Kayla Morin, 23, of Shaw Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:14 a.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to appear for issuing worthless checks. A deputy located Morin at her residence on the warrant. She was taken to the parish jail and held. Morin was released on a $750 bail.
—Duane Roy Jr., 23, of Tiffany Street in Patterson, was arrested at 1:05 p.m. Friday for no driver’s license, possession of alcoholic beverages in a motor vehicle and littering.
—Brittney Nicole Williams, 23, of Duval Street in Amelia, was arrested at 1 p.m. Friday obstruction of justice.
A deputy responded to a single vehicle crash on U.S. 90 in the Amelia area. Upon arrival the deputy made contact with Williams who stated that she was the driver. However, during the course of the investigation, the deputy learned from multiple witnesses that Roy was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash. Witnesses also stated that Roy had thrown a can of beer over the side of the bridge. The deputy observed a can floating in the water. Following the crash, both Williams and Roy were taken to Teche Regional Medical Center where they were later arrested. Both were released on summons to appear in court April 17.
—Vernon Joseph Robin Jr., 49, of Front Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:07 p.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to register as a sex offender. A deputy located Robin at his residence on the warrant. He was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set.
—Rudolph Edwards, 59, of James Street in Siracusaville, was arrested at 4:44 p.m. Saturday for disturbing the peace intoxicated. A deputy responding to a complaint of a suspicious person located a subject lying in the roadway on the corner of Frontage Road and Frances Street in Amelia. Upon making contact with the subject, identified as Edwards, the deputy detected the odor of alcohol on him. Following an investigation, the deputy transported Edwards to the parish jail to be held. His bail is set at $250.
—Egbert Sonny Pennison, 35, of St. Marie Alley in Amelia, was arrested at 8:15 p.m. Sunday for domestic abuse battery and misrepresentation during booking.
—Tiffany Watkins, 29, of St. Marie Alley in Amelia, was arrested on Sunday at 8:15 p.m. for domestic abuse battery.
A deputy responded to the area of the Amelia Library in reference to a complaint of domestic abuse. During the course of the investigation the deputy learned that Watkins and Pennison had been drinking when they got into a physical altercation. Both were taken to the parish jail and held. During booking, Pennison refused to give identification information to deputies. No bail is set.
—Kasey Landry Pojar, 27, of Bush Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:01 p.m. Friday for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, and introduction of contraband into a penal institution.
Detectives with the sheriff’s office narcotics division were patrolling U.S. 90 in the Patterson and Bayou Vista area when they observed a vehicle cross the yellow line on several occasions. The driver of the vehicle also failed to signal a turn onto La. 182. A traffic stop was conducted. During the investigation, the passenger, identified as Pojar, was found to be in possession of methamphetamine in several baggies. Pojar was taken to the parish jail and held. While in the jail, detectives located several baggies containing methamphetamine concealed on Pojar, the report stated. No bail is set.
Patterson Police arrested the following:
—Jordan Fontenot, 27, of McDermott Drive in Morgan City, at 10:33 a.m. Jan. 21 for theft of more than $500 for illegal carrying of weapon. Fontenot was released on bail.
—Hartman Leslie, 51, of Taft Street in Patterson, was arrested at 9 p.m. Tuesday for aggravated assault and domestic violence. Leslie was released on bail.
—Virginia Smith, 41, of Ninth Street in Patterson, was arrested at 1:25 a.m. Tuesday for disturbing the peace by intoxication, failure to comply and disturbing the peace by language. Smith was released on recognizance per G. Stevens.
—Barrett Leonard, 36, of Cross LaRue Street in Pierre Part, was arrested at 6:18 a.m. Thursday for suspended driver’s license, two lights required and expired motor vehicle inspection sticker. Leonard was released.
—Jonathon Conner, 33, of Saturn Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:50 p.m. Thursday for suspended driver’s license and two lights required. Conner was released after paying fines.
—Monica Charles, 34, of Live Oak Street in Patterson, was arrested at 2:49 a.m. Friday for remaining where forbidden. Charles was released on recognizance per A.C. Stevens.
—James Joseph Sr., 61, of Paradise Lane, was arrested at 8:15 a.m. Friday for felony theft. Joseph was released to Jeanerette police.
—Bonitta Federer, 44, of Highway 663 in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:17 p.m. Friday for disturbing the peace. Federer paid the fine in full and was released.
—Devin Vining, 19, was arrested Saturday for disturbing the peace by language. Vining was released on recognizance per A.C. Stevens.
—Alex Gil, 53, of Jason Street in Patterson, was arrested at 10:20 p.m. Saturday for DWI first offense. Gil was released on bail.
—John Keith Mack of Sandy Drive in Patterson, for speeding, no driver’s license, careless operation and DWI. Mack is still being held.
—Devin Carl Thornton, 22, of Shadowlawn Drive in Berwick, was arrested at 5:17 p.m. Sunday for criminal damage to property. Thornton paid the fine and was released.
—Torrell Tillman, 22, of Saturn Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 2 p.m. Thursday for two counts of drug court violations. Tillman is still being held awaiting bail to be set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Walter Andrew Vaughn, 53, of Utah Street in Berwick, was arrested at 8:27 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for driving under suspension from the sheriff’s office, and on charges from Berwick police of disturbing the peace intoxicated second offense. Vaughn is still being held.
—Billy Maurice Harvey, 28, of Oregon Street in Berwick, was arrested at 10:36 p.m. Friday for disturbing the peace. Harvey was released on bail.
